as well as stupid people

Using reliable birth control and agreeing not to have more children while on public assistance should be a component of our welfare reform. Why "pay" parents to keep having kids with taxpayers' money when many of those same taxpayers choose to have fewer kids because they can't afford more? As repugnant as the thought of getting involved in people's reproductive lives seems, there must be consequences. And the long-term costs, both in real dollars and in emotional and educational costs, are tremendous. Babies born into poverty, to drug- or alcohol-addicted mothers suffer serious health consequences and developmental delays.

I would rather know that drug addicts and alcoholics, even though they are a burden on society, are not having children that would be suffering the consequences of their parents addictions.

KelEMcE: The question is not posed to anyone on Welfare. The fear-based propaganda that informs people (mostly through Fox News and Friends - who are marinally less biased than a Texas Beauty Pageant Mother) that the majority of people on Welfare are drug addicts and alcoholics is in fact FALSE. While you had several good points, starting your statement with a fallacy diminshes the rest of your opinion.

When we start dictating who can have children when, what prevents us from telling addicts and alcoholics to have abortions when they do get pregnant? What prevents us from them telling them who they can have sex with to prevent certain diseases? What prevents us from moving to the same ideals as China, enacting a "one child" policy for government employees, urban citizens and certain ethnicities? (China restricts the Han ethnicity currently.) Its ridiculous! EDUCATION teamed with prevention is the way out of messes like that. Not restrictions. Restrictions do nothing. Look at prohibition. Despite strict laws and severe punishments, all we did as a country was DRINK MORE.

I think it would be more beneficial to pay addicts to get clean and become productive members of society than it would to pay them to be sterilized. It just makes more sense to solve their addiction that leave that in place and try to prevent the negative outcome of it.

I think we should break out the chastity belts and slap them on all who's under 18 and anyone who fits the catigory of stupid people. Sorry for my spelling, I've been up all night with two babies.

The question posed implies addicts and alcoholics on gov. asst. of some form does it not? If it were directed at those paying for their own sterilization then there wouldn't be a question to begin with. Maybe I'm just reading into it incorrectly.

I am one of those that didn't get to the nurse quick enough for my stock up on b.c, and now I am 2 1/2 months pregnant. My soon to be hubby just got laid off and he won't let me goto work. We had to apply for welfare, and honestly it is degradeing. He is supposed to go and try out for a job a makeing a little more than before so maybe we can get off the assistance. It's not easy, and when i look at some of women that come in and out, I think they don't realy want all those kids to begin with, not being mean, you can just tell it's hard. Maybe along with birth controll, and sterilization, they should include psychological assistance so they do not repeat the process.

kelMce who do you think you are to say anything about mothers being on welfare. I think for you or anybody else to judge a woman or a mother about thier income is very ignorgant, I'm a single mother my self I am also on welfare and I think I'm doing a pretty good job at taking care of my kids . I cant afford to have another baby but , I plan to expect my third child in february. I dont want to have a debate about this but I do understand what you are saying but, I feel you should be careful with your words "its not what you say it's how you say it ." That is all I have to say.

It sounds harsh but I think if you give birth to an addicted baby, you should have to be sterilized at that time. I'm sorry to anyone who is an addict or former addict but I've worked with clients who have one or more addicted or drug/alcohol damaged children. It's just not fair what the kids go through. I'm all for offering services to these moms to get clean and stay clean for their kids but I don't want them to have the priviledge to repeat that mistake. There are things worse than death and a baby addicted to heroin has got to be one of them.

When the mother applies for welfare assistance, she is allowed compensation for no more than two childern. If she chooses to become with child again, she is on her own. However, many women live with the male, and don't report any support from him, and this is against the law. My favorit one for exposing the fraudulent charachters, is Judge Judy. She exposed so may it is truly amazing. We taxpayers are sick of this.

I agree a mother who has and addicted baby should be sterilized. My baby's daddy was one. He was born 3 months early and he was born with his intestines out. How could a mother let that happen to her baby. Any women who allows that doesn't deserve the joy of having a baby. He was given up for adoption thank goodness. She should have been charged with child abuse and neglect. I cry every time I think about something happening to my baby. Strict laws need to be forced on people like that. He had to be given whiskey after he was born to calm him down. Strict laws need to be put on addicts period.

i don't believe that it is "RIGHT" for us to pay drug addicts and alcoholics to be sterilized, i believe it is necessary.
on Jul 30, 2010
u believe it is necessary? wow! Im a drug addiction counselor and my clients have a disease-the disease is a proven medical term! That is what they suffer from-see the term suffer? they are human just like us-wow i just cant believe u can say sterilize a person because he/she is suffering from a disease! People like u dont need to have children, we have enough ignorant people in the world-dont need anymore-so u dont have any kids, more people will pay to sterilize people like u

Alcoholism, and drug addiction are curable problems. Why would our society encourage someone to permanently give up their ability to have children, rather than encourage someone to permanently give up their addiction. He//, if a former alcoholic and drug addict can be president, why shouldn't a former addict be a parent?
on Aug 07, 2010
they should receive birth control but not be sterilized.there's a big difference between being a drug addict/alcoholic & a parent whose on welfare. yes, some just want free money. but some have lost their jobs & so forth & have no choice.others cant stereo type saying everyone who is on welfare is a bad parent, drug addict or shouldn't be having kids.those who are talking bad about the parents who are thank god you aren't in that situation & pray to god that you don't end up in it, you never know what tomorrow brings & who's to say you won't end up on welfare. then will see if you like others judging you when they don't even know you.

Really...in my opinion, if you are an addict of any kind, you have no buisness laying down having a kid or trying to have a child. being an addict shows you dont even have the capability to take care of yourself, lettle on an inocent child.

I feel that everyone need to live they own life and stay out of everybody else because life is too short. We all need to come together and make the world a better place before no one be here.

My best friends mom was an addict. My friend is 22 and has 2 siblings. Her bro is 16 and lived on the streets for 1 yr after my friend had to leave and trusted her mom.He ran away from several foster homes and is now in a state boys home. Her mom got pregnant while on drugs and then ran on the streets. The baby was found with a 4 day old diaper and crying from the hunger,in a junk house. The baby was adopted and her mom STILL wanted to have another baby.I can't describe to you what this did to my friend. Her mom recently died from an overdose.Drugs ruin lives, addicts don't care about anything but getting high. Somebody has to step in.

Any kind of addict deserves treatment not by being paid for long term birth control or to be sterilized but by psycological thearapy. The money they recieve for birth control they might say it's for birth control but in reality it's for their bad habit. Or the money they recieve to be sterlized they might get sterilized not knowing what their doing they might accept it and what happens they decide later in life they want to have a family of their own and they can't get pregnant anymore the psycological of trauma is even greater that they might fall on the bad habit again just not to think of the past. The best treatment is psycological thearapy.

I'm a welfare mom and pregnant with number 4 and I for one don't like to be put down by those who work I have worked my husband worked up until June he and I where both tax payers. I am a stay at home mom taking care of my children and my husband. And I agree mothers who drink and do drugs should not have any children or shouldn't have any more.

Umm, who wants drug users to use dirty needles that spread diseases sometimes even to non-drug users, or to become pregnant???? It's as simple as that people! I don't want to see anyone get poked by a dirty needle rather they use or not and I certainty do not want to see a drug user pregnant!
on Sep 18, 2010
This subject personally has nothing to do with welfare or anything like that. That's not even mentioned in the question lol didn't you people learn to stay on topic in school?? haha How about you answer these questions:[they are a little more on topic] Do you want a drug user pregnant? or Do you want someone to get poked with a dirty needle, drug user or not?
