you really cannot expect a one month old baby to sleep through the night. most babies don't until around 4 months. i was lucky-my daughter slept 7 hours straight at 8 weeks. i added rice cereal to her bottles at 5 weeks. before i put her to bed, i would feed her as much as possible, give her a warm bath with johnson's bedtime bath. i follwed that up with a massage using the matching lotion. putting a little extra cereal in the bottle at night helped too.
At that age they need to eat at least every four hours to grow. However there are some very rare children who are able to do it earlier it all depends on your baby. My friends baby had to be woken up to eat day and night that's just how he was. Meanwhile my twins didn't sleep through the night till they where 7-8 months. Then the teething starts...

Unfortunately, you can't and shouldn't expect your little one to sleep through the night at one month. Their tummies are so small they can only eat a little at a time and therefore have to eat more often. If your child slept through the night at this early stage, it's health and growth would be affected. I know you are desperate for sleep...my son is only 4 months old so I was just there myself. But this newborn time is all about the baby and not about us...that's what we agreed to when we accepted the new title of "Mom". Please do NOT start feeding your child cereal even if it's mixed in their bottle. A newborn's digestive system is not ready for cereal until they are at least a few months old so feeding them cereal too soon could cause them health issues and a lot of discomfort. Is it fair for a baby to suffer just so Mom can get a couple extra hours of sleep? I don't think so. This time will soon pass and in just a few months your baby will sleep for longer periods and you'll get to sleep more, too. Until then, just remember nightly feedings are for the health of your child and that you are a good Mom for looking out for your child's best interests.
Im actually a professional baby sleep coach. As another mom already mentioned, its pretty uncommon for a baby so young to sleep through the night. Some moms are lucky enough to have great sleepers straight out of the womb, but for the rest of us it has to be a gradual and learned skill...and at one month old this is a pretty high expectation. I would continue to swaddle your newborn and provide a calming sleep environment. You can find a free report on how to create a perfect sleep environment for your baby at www.mybabysleepsatnight.com Other moms have found this list to be very helpful! Good luck!

PERHAPS READING A BOOK WOULD BE A GOOD START. IT WOULD RELAX THE BABY AS WELL AS POSSIBLY INSTRUCT YOU TO LEARN TO SPELL THE CORRECT VERSION OF "THROUGH" WHEN USED IN A PHRASE SUCH AS "THROUGH THE NIGHT."
you should give him/her a bath before going to bed and then just give them milk just after you put on clothes and also adding cereal is not suitable for all babies just make sure to do things which will suit your baby and also we used to keep our son in our bedroom in a bassinet.he just happen to sleep longer.and just make sure you sing something to him/her ... they love it and rocking chair helps a lot ... and slowly make sure to let them go to sleep on his own ... otherwise unless like us you will have to carry him around until they fall asleep

well a month old baby probley is not going to sleep through the night so early on, some mothers get lucky with that and some don't. all I can say is before you go to bed give him/her a nice warm bath feed her/him 30min b4 bedtime so you can get all that gas out that comes with feeding, and lay them down. You really can't expect a baby this young to sleep well yet so don't get discourged im sure you are doing your best and remember your baby is still getting used to living in the outside world
A baby is not going to sleep through the night at one month old. They have to eat more often. If you are that tired, have your spouse get up with the baby at night or just nap when the baby sleeps. All new moms go through a period where they feel as though they have gotten no sleep at all. But it will pass in a couple of months.
It isn't good for a baby to sleep THROUGH (not threw) the night at that young of an age, they're SUPOSSED to wake up often in order to eat. It is unrealistic to expect a one-month old baby to sleep that many hours in a row. That's something as a parent you're going to have to get used to. Many babies take months and months to sleep that many consecutive hours.
WoW...there are a lot of answers more concerned with correct spelling than hearing the cry of a stressed mother. I would have thought the community of this website would be more supportive than the incessant repeating of one mistake of spelling. By the way ADMDANCE7, your attempt at correcting the mother's use of 'threw' was completely negated by your use of SUPOSSED which is incorrect!
Of course babies are going to get up through the night, but this mom is asking for some empathy and the least we can do is tell her we understand and give her the best advice possible. Otherwise, keep your useless comments to yourself and post somewhere else. This goes for you to Blowfish.
As for the asking mom, good luck with all of it and keep asking questions!
