I think that hypothyroidism can effect getting pregnant. I had my thyroid checked a few times while I was pregnant. I know that weight can also make it harder to get pregnant. My good friend was pretty overweight and her doctor advised her to lose weight, which helped. She lost 25lbs. and got pregnant. You should talk to your doctor.
I don't know for sure, but I laid down in bed for 30 minutes after sex with a pillow under my butt. I know when you stand up after sex gravity takes its course, so why not give the swimmers a little time to make their way before standing. Sorry for being so graphic but that is my advice. Good luck. :)
After reading your question I hopped on google and started searching and stumbled apon this:

It has alot of information for you that you might find interesting and helpful to you. The best advice I can give on a medical level is to talk to your doctor and see what you can do to make things easier for you and your partner. On a personal level stop trying so hard. If you make it into a job it becomes more stressful and not the fun and exciting thing it is suppose to be. Once you stop trying and get out of that "omg i'm ovulating we need to have sex now!" you find things will be alot easier. My mom tried for nearly a year, just got too stressed out and too depressed after ever failed attempt that she finally gave up . My dad took her on a trip up the coast of cali and stayed a few night in a nice hotel. All thoughts were off babies and then 9 months later I was born. So just relax and i wish you the best of luck.
