So my inlaws have a really nice condo in the caribbean and they invited me, my husband and our son, whom they adore to come stay with them on vacation for a week. They graciously paid for everything and I was very excited. I work hard and was looking forward to this vacation.
Well, when we got there, it was just so NOT a vacation. They had all these rules about using stuff in the condo and they didn't like that I didn't make the bed every day. I didn't sleep the entire time because my FIL had a hacking nasty nauseating cough that kept me up all night long. They hardly offered to watch our son so we could relax for a bit. In fact, I was on kid duty the entire time. We had no privacy and the whole thing was just awkward.
Now, they've offered to fly us there again to stay with them. They like to buy the family one big gift a year instead of buying a present for each birthday/holiday, etc...So they've offered a certain $ amount per person to fly there again. How do I politely say no? We live in the same town, so it's hard for me to make up lies to get out of things. I have absolutely no desire to go there again. The thought alone makes me want to crawl into a corner and cry! I really don't want my husband and child to go alone as well. I know my son would be very upset to go without me.
