How do I potty train a stubborn 2 1/2 yr old?
How do I potty train a stubborn 2 1/2 yr old?
My daughter is two and a half and we are having trouble potty training her. She goes at school all the time just fine, but when we get home she refuses to go. She screams and cries when I put panties on her. She will hold it for over an hour, screaming and crying that she has to go. She won't go in any of the potties that we have at the house. She has gone pee and poop once in the toilet at home and we made such a big deal out of it; stickers, candy, etc, so I thoght she would keep going. But she refuss to go now and I don't know what else to do. It is so frustrating!

Potty training can be hard. My daughter wasn't fully potty trained until just before her third birthday, my 2 1/2 year old son is still working on it. For my kids, candy rewards have worked well. They get one small candy (my son is liking chocolate covered raisins right now) for peeing, two for peeing and putting undies back on, and a small lollipop for pooping. Stickers and other rewards never worked for either of them.
When my son was starting he hated sitting on his potty chair, so I would sit next to him and read a book. It kept him occupied enough that he would sit patiently while he went.
But, if candy or books don't work for your daughter, you might try taking to the teachers at your daughter's school. See if there is anything special that they do that you can do at home. It sounds like she has a pretty good routine at school and it might be easiest if you can make the experience as close to her school experience, if possible.
