I dont want to pierce my daughter's ears! Ok!!!

My daughter is only 3 months old and i dont want to pierce her ears, but my family doesnt get that! i dont want to hear about how it's better for her when she's young cause she wont remember it. babies have feelings too and it still hurts, period. i dont want to hear how it's easy and you barely have to do anything to take care of them. No, you do have to do alot. you have to clean them and turn them and what if she's allergic to silver or gold or nickel or any of the other metals used to make earrings. i dont want to hear how every little girl has pierced ears. No, they dont. especially not every baby girls. she's about as girlie as she can get as she is only three months old and goes to the babysitter (when i work of course) fully dressed from pink headband to pink dress, down to her white shoes. im completely in favor of the girlie girl movement. do i really need to put holes in her ears also to prove she's a girl. as if she needs any more proof. i mean, really? did you pierce your daughter's ears? if so, when? am i being a stick in the mud for no good reason?

My girls don't have their ears pierced. They won't get that done until 1. they ask, and 2. they're old enough to take care of them. I see it as a rite of passage, it's a special event for girls as they start growing up. My 3 1/2 year old has no interest in wearing earrings at all. And given that she's ultra girly, I'm glad. It's one less thing she asks me for. Plus, I would never inflict that kind of pain on my baby! Shots are bad enough, but those are necessary. Piercing ears isn't. And, I have a nickel allergy, and almost all earrings, no matter what they're made of, irritate my ears. I don't want to have my babies deal with that kind of discomfort. Also, I had a friend who had it done as a baby and her holes weren't centered once she was older. Babies' ears grow and change, and if the ears are pierced as a baby, the holes may not be centered on the lobes later on.

You are your daughter's mother. If you don't want her ears pierced, don't do it. Plenty of baby girls do not have it done. It doesn't make them any less girly.

I don't have my daughters ears peirced,I don't plan on it untill she's about 12.I don't wanna take care of them,I remember getting my ears peirced and that whole thing was horrible.I wanna keep her a baby forever,as innocent as I can possibly get her.Theres really no rush, your daughter has her whole life to get her ears peirced.

Don't get her ears pierced and don't feel bad. I used to work at a mall piercing ears and it was always traumatic, even when the girls were older. It's also very easy to get infected because you can't clean the piercings as well as you could with an older child. And as you mentioned, there's always the risk of an allergy to the metal. I personally think it's a barbaric custom anyway and I don't plan on piercing my daughter's ears until she's much older and only if she really wants it. You can always tell your relatives that you tried to take her in to get pierced and the people at Claire's or wherever said she needs all of her shots first ... we used to turn away customers with that excuse when they'd try to bring in their 2 week old infants :)

i agree with v 100%. let her ask for it, and when she's old enough to take care of them. my daughter is girlie to the hilt. she has probably 14 tutu's, and really only wears pink or purple. hell, she pitches a fit if we leave the house, and she's not wearing a tutu, lol. i had my ears pierced at 3, and it's always been a traumatic experience for me. i can remember sitting at the piercing pagoda in the mall screaming and crying because i didn't want it done. my mother often tells me she wishes she would have waited until i was older. like v said, shots are bad enough, but they are necessary.

I haven't pierced my daughters ears either. I am always asked why I haven't done it, and I always tell people, "I didn't get my ears pierced until I was 10. When I was ready. My LO is just a baby/toddler now and I don't want to force something on her she may hate when she gets older. They're HER ears, not mine."

Saying babies "don't remember" pain is a despicable reason for causing them pain! You should tell everyone to drop the subject because you're not going to cause your child unecessary pain. She can get her ears pierced when she's older. And I really would reccomend you get it done at a doctor's office if and when you decide to. I got a massive infection in my ears as a teenager because I got them done at a mall. My ear lobe doubled in size and it was one of the most physically painful things I've gone through.
