Prenatal Appointments?

Prenatal Appointments?

Due to my states pregnancy medical insurance, I have not been able to see a DR until now, and I am 16 weeks pregnant. I have no idea what to expect at the doctors appointment. Can someone please tell me what they will do and what they will ask and everything? Thank you!

Basically they will weigh you, give you a urine test, and check your blood pressure. After that you will see the doctor and he will ask you a few questions and will measure your belly. You will get to hear the babies heartbeat and thats pretty much all there is to those appointments. Good Luck.

If you haven't already done any blood work, your dr. will probably order that as well. It's just to gauge your general health and spot any potential problems like anemia early on. I know my doc orders a CBC(complete blood count), CMP(complete metabolic panel), beta HCG(blood pregnancy test), HIV, Hep A,B,C, drug and urine screen, rubella immunity screen, and an ultrasound to confirm viability for all new patients. Your doc may be different, but be prepared for some blood work at least.

Along with what the other 2 comments included, you will more than likely have your first ultrasound! Very exciting! This will be the first time that you will actually get to see your baby! I believe my first ultrasound was at 12 weeks( I am 19 and a 1/2 weeks now ). It doesn't hurt and it's nothing to be scared about! In the ultrasound they will look at the baby's heart and take measurements of various things. Make sure you right down ANY questions that you have. This first appointment is a great time to get questions answered and I think that docotor's like for you to ask at least a couple questions!

I don't think you will get the ultrasound unless they told you to drink plenty of water before your appointment. But then again all states are different so you just may. I read on someone else's post that they got an ultrasound at 17 weeks. My doctor was set at doing mine between 20-22 weeks. I was supposed to go in at 19 weeks for a routine check-up and they were really set against doing the ultrasound early.

Thanks ladies! I just wanted to make sure that I was prepared for everything today. She mainly just asked about my family history, so I knew about all of that:D Thank you!
