Sometimes it's nice to get advice from experts with a lot of letter degrees behind their names, but other times, you just need to hear what another parent (with a M.O.M. behind her name) has done that has worked. You've got questions? These moms have answers.

As far as I know, there is no waiting period. You can even get a flu shot with other vaccinations. However, flu shots aren't known for being very effective. They are manufactured sop far in advance that the current flu strain is not the same as the one in the vaccine. Some people say that a flu shot makes flu symptoms less bad if you get it, but from my own experience and from just about everyone I've talked to, getting a flu shot pretty much guarantees you get the flu, and it's bad. You're better off using natural remedies to strengthen your, and your children's, immune systems and to fight cold or flu symptoms. Vitamin D, vitamin C, zinc, echinacea, and goldenseal (unless you're pregnant, and then goldenseal isn't safe) are all great for the immune system, as are natural yogurt and probiotics. If you get sick, take these remedies, as well as something like Zicam. I took it when my kids and husband got sick and I didn't get sick at all. I also used the EmergenC immune formula.

The flu shot does not give you the flu. That being said you can still get the flu because like V said, it is manufactured months in advance. I get the flu shot almost every year and I usually still get the flu, but a much milder flu (lasting a week with less pain, chills, fever etc.) rather then a month long sickness that makes me feel like hell. That being said, it cant hurt to get some more vitamins as well :)

Flu-like symptoms are a common side effect of the flu shot, especially for those who get the live virus shot.

Thank you so much for the info. My kiddos and I had to have some vaccines and I had pondered the idea of a flu shot even though we dont usually get them. Usually we just drink lots of orange juice...take vitamin c tabs...ect....but my mother in law has been freaking out about us not having a flu shot....and wasnt sure since we all just had some vaccines if we could get it soon after...i have alway been worried about going and gettin a flu shot due to the rumors about u can still get the flu...and i hve had it twice without the flu shot and it was horrible...so i sure didnt want it if i was tryin to prevent it...
