Every child is different and so are all parents. Some parents keep their kids in a crib until they're 3. My daughter refused to sleep in her crib after she turned 15 months old. She loved her toddler bed and did great in it. We just put our son in the toddler bed and he's 18 months old. At first he wanted to still be in the crib but since we're having another baby in December we needed him to transition now.

It really jsut depends on what you and your child are ready for. If your child is climbing out of the crib he or she should switch to a toddler bed for safety reasons. But if there's no reason to switch (not climbing out, no new baby on the way, etc.) you can keep your child in the crib as long as you're comfortable with it.

I waited untill my kids  were 2 and then got them a toddler bed but you can do it when ever you think your child is ready.
