Well you can feed them soft bananas if you want, and baby food out of jars.  Also just make sure it is soft, sometimes they do not have very many teeth so just be careful.

By 6 months my daughter was eating all kinds of the stage 1 and stage 2 baby food in the jars.. she always was able to eat soft foods such as mashed potatos and stuff.. my daughter just got her first tooth when she was 10 months and was able to eat anything soft before then even managed to gum her chicken nuggets =) just watch them and start with the baby food and soft things and go from there
