Signs that a pearly white will pop up: more drool than usual, a tendency to chew on everything, and inflamed gums. To keep the fuss-factor to a minimum, try these teething tips:

Give teething toys. Offer a chilled teething ring (not frozen), a damp washcloth, or any other clean, soft, non-chokeable item that he can bite.

Get medicine. If your baby is really uncomfortable, consult your pediatrician about giving him ibuprofen (safe to use after 6 months of age), acetaminophen, or a teething gel.

Relax. Don't worry about spoiling your baby; coddle him, and hold off on sleep training and other challenges until his tooth comes in.
