If your child is hooked on watching sports, make the most of his hobby - Parenting.com
Sitting on the sidelines can be a good thing - when it's Mom and Dad who are doing it, that is. Researchers at Duke University Medical School and Baylor College of Medicine found that kids whose parents value team sports exercise more than kids whose parents advocate fitness in general but don't necessarily help their budding athletes work on their skills, attend practices, or cheer them on at games. "Team-sport participation is time-intensive - between all the games and practices - which means built-in activity and less opportunity for TV," says lead researcher Cheryl Braselton Anderson, Ph.D. "But we also discovered that the value parents place on team sports rubs off on their children - and that shared attitude directly affects how much vigorous exercise the kids get." So go ahead - it's okay to be your child's biggest cheerleader.
