1. Slough Use a non-oil-based scrub or a loofah to get rid of dead skin cells, which absorb extra tanner (focus on knees and elbows). Try: St. Ives In-Shower Exfoliating Body Polish, $6.99.

2. Go Feet First If you apply tanner to your torso, then bend to do your lower body, you'll end up with weird pleats. Use a quarter-size blob for each leg, and a thinner layer at your ankles.
