You're late for work (again), the bills are piling up, and you can't stop thinking about... It's natural to worry, especially in these uncertain times, and, according to Marci Shimoff, author of Happy for No Reason, it's also human nature: "For most people, many of the thoughts we have each day are negative." Focusing on the downside, however, can be stressful, so why not try to turn your thinking around? Here, three simple ways to keep anxiety at bay:

Get all American Idol Don't worry if you're off-key; the simple act of belting out a tune can boost your mood. "The deeper breaths you take when you sing cause you to feel more relaxed," explains Shimoff. Chances are, you won't be solo for long -- before you know it, your little ones will be sing, singing along.

Come clean Already took a shower this morning? No matter. Take ten minutes and jump in again. The crashing flow of water can be uplifting and calming. Just the sound works, too. Office buildings, parks, and museums, Shimoff points out, often have fountains at the entrance to produce this same tranquil effect.

Hang with the happy Emotions are contagious, so make an effort to spend time with people who are upbeat. You might even choose a "happiness buddy" (like a gym pal) and touch base a couple times a week.
