Snack Time!
September 1, 2005

Lesson No 3: Eat nutritious, well-timed snacks
Konigsberg, who used to frequently skip meals, now has three small meals and two snacks a day without fail, and she never goes more than five hours without eating. "Eating regular meals keeps your energy and mood stable," explains Krieger, "and prevents impulsive eating, which is often calorie-loaded." For her snacks, Konigsberg has traded in the tortilla chips for yogurt with granola, or vegetable crudit¿¿s with onion-yogurt dip. She also times snacks to curb overeating. She used to arrive home so hungry that by the time she put the boys to bed and got around to feeding herself at 9:30, she'd either choose something quick to prepare (read: junk food) and/or end up overindulging. Now she always has a late afternoon snack at the office; when she gets home, she can spend a peaceful hour with her boys, followed by a healthy and reasonable meal.

Next: Everyday exercise!
