Reality Check: Bringing Baby to an Adults-Only Party

Can I bring my newborn to an adults-only dinner party?

By Denene Millner, Parenting
Q. I was invited to an adults-only dinner party, and I want to go, but I don't want to leave my newborn. Can I bring him?

Nope. It's an adults-only party for a reason. Maybe the hostess envisioned a soiree with grown-up conversation -- and a little adult happy juice? None of this can go down when there are kids, even generally low-maintenance newborns. Once a baby's in the mix, it's almost guaranteed that all the attention (especially yours) is focused on the little one instead of the grown-up activities. So suck it up: Either find a sitter or explain that you can't go because you have to stay home with the baby, but you'll join in the next go-round. And don't feel shortchanged -- welcome to motherhood!

Adult toys in the bedroom -- a do or a don't?

Yes, yes, yes!
Sure, in theory, but I'd be too embarrassed!
No way. We're lovers not porn-stars.
