If there's one sure thing about breastfeeding, it's that the learning curve is steep. But not every nagging (or burning or leaking...) dilemma calls for a face-to-face with a lactation consultant. Try these reliable -- and free! -- resources instead:

medela.com's "Ask the LC" is the help section of the highly credible breast-pump manufacturer's site. The "LC" in question is certified lactation consultant Kathleen Bruce, who will personally respond to your questions and concerns via e-mail.

If you can't make the live Q&A chats with a lactation consultant at breastfeeding.com, you'll find the info you need in its Answer Center, which covers everything from latching on to nursing with pierced nipples.

The website for La Leche League International, llli.org, also offers an extensive Answer Pages section. Still need help? You can submit an online Help Form with your individual questions and one of the trained LLLI volunteers will respond via e-mail within a week.
