Q. I sometimes feel closer to my best friend than to my husband  -- is that weird?

A. Not at all. What would be weird, and most unfortunate, would be not to have someone else in your corner willing to lend an ear and give advice (or just a shoulder to lean on) when you needed it. I wouldn't have a clue what to do without my BFF, Angelou. We're so attuned to each other as moms/wives/employees/friends/women that we doggone near complete each other's thoughts.

That's not to dismiss the importance of my relationship with my other best friend  -- my husband, Nick. Aside from my parents' adopting me and the birth of my children, saying "I do" to that man was the best thing that ever happened to me. We've built a beautiful life together and rely on each other for almost everything.

But even so, on those days when I can't quite get a handle on why I'm so tired, or why my kids act so crazy, or why it wouldn't be a good thing to curse out whoever else is bugging me the most, it seems like the only one who really gets it is my amen corner/counselor/stand-in mommy/retail-therapy partner Angelou, and I wouldn't trade her for anything. And for my girlfriends who aren't as lucky as I am in the husband department, that best friend is doubly important.
