Anita Sethi received her doctorate in clinical psychology from Columbia University, and completed her internship at the Yale Child Study Center. She is currently a [ITALIC {BabyTalk}] contributing editor, and a research scientist at the [XREF {http://www.nyu.edu/education/appsych/cfpc/} {Child and Family Policy Center}] at New York University, where she works on implementing and evaluating interventions for low-income toddlers and preschoolers.
While her training was a valuable and irreplaceable experience, Dr. Sethi feels she has learned far more about children and about development from her two sons than she did from a shelf load of books. "The realization that parents are experts in their own right really influenced my approach to guiding parents about child rearing," recalls Dr. Sethi.
Dr. Sethi's primary goal as a columnist for [ITALIC {BabyTalk,}] therefore, is to help parents recognize their enormous power. This means helping parents to have faith in their own instincts and abilities. It also means helping parents see how immeasurably important their love and approval are to their children. "I do have at least one absolute," says Dr. Sethi, "Love your children. Love your children and never let them forget it. No A+, no perfect hair, no excellent batting average will take them as far as will the knowledge of your unconditional love and approval."
