Ask Denene: A Visit From the In-Laws

When my first child was born, I hosted my in-laws for three tiring days. How do I avoid a repeat of that?
By Denene Millner

Honey, you'll be lucky if the grand'rents even come to see you the next time. I'll bet my bottom dollar that they shoved their way into your baby's first moments because they felt all giddy about finally having a grandkid. It'll be different now. Of course, if they do want to sprint over, you simply need to set some ground rules. Say that while you're happy to have them, you're going to need your rest after pushing a human being out of your loins, and that if they really want to help, they can take your first child out - maybe back to their hotel (hint, hint). You also need to put yourself in check. If you'd begged off the entertaining last time, everyone would have understood. So say you need your rest - and take it.
