Getting Pregnant With PCOS

Polycystic ovarian syndrome is the leading cause of infertility in women but fighting obesity can lead to a healthy pregnancy. Got the green light from your doctor? Find out how to get pregnant faster

The underlying cause of PCOS may be metabolic or inherited, but the condition can often be lessened or even eliminated with lifestyle changes.

As many as 85 to 90 percent of women with PCOS are overweight, and in one study, nearly half of the obese women with PCOS who lost just 5 percent of their body weight were able to get pregnant without any medical intervention. Losing weight is key: even when women with PCOS still require medical treatment to get pregnant, they’ll respond better to fertility drugs and have a healthier pregnancy at a lighter weight.
