Cookie Recipe: Whole Wheat Sugar Cookie

Yield: 30 cookies

Ingredients
1 cup sugar
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
½ tsp baking soda
2 tbsp milk
1 tbsp grated lemon or orange peel
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg
2 cup whole wheat flour
2 tbsp sugar
½ tsp nutmeg
½ cup butter, softened
½ tsp cinnamon

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
2. Combine sugar, baking powder, salt, baking soda, nutmeg, butter, milk, grated lemon or orange peel, vanilla, and egg in a large bowl and mix well. Stir in the flour.
3. Shape into 1-inch balls. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet 2 inches apart and flatten slightly.
4. Combine remaining 2 tbsp sugar and ½ tsp cinnamon and sprinkle over cookies. Bake 8-10 minutes until lightly brown.
