Fill Up on Fruits, Vegetables, and Whole Grains

Eating more complex carbohydrates like whole grains, fruits, and vegetables is the way to go when trying to conceive. Not only do they supply key nutrients, but eating them can also improve ovulation and your chances of getting pregnant. On the other hand, eating a lot of highly refined carbohydrates, such as white bread, will decrease your chances of conception. Highly refined carbohydrates increase your blood sugar and insulin levels, which in turn disrupt your hormone balance. The hormonal changes then affect ovulation cycles. To get complex carbohydrates in your diet, eat whole grains, beans, vegetables, and fruits. To find whole-grain products look for these ingredients on the label: whole wheat, stone-ground whole grain, whole-grain corn or cornmeal, oatmeal, whole or rolled oats, kamut, millet, amaranth, buckwheat, kasha, pearl barley, and brown rice.
