When you’re trying to conceive, it’s important to be completely honest with your doctor. And that means about everything. Physicians need to have a complete picture of what’s going on with your and your partner’s bodies, even if that means “fessing up” to recreational drug use, smoking, excessive drinking, and any sexually transmitted diseases you may have had in the past. Previous abortions or miscarriages can also affect present fertility. If you’re hiding something like this in your past from your partner, know the doctor will ask about it. Honesty with your partner is the best policy, of course. If need be, ask for a private consult with your physician to explain your history and concerns.
