Mom: Colleen Brennan
Hometown: Massapequa, NY
Family: Husband Joe, a construction project manager; son Aidan, 1; and a baby on the way
What she'd like help with: She "would love to get a little more control" at home and at work -- and even when it comes to her appearance, says Colleen Brennan. It's a tall order for any mom, let alone one with an energetic toddler and a baby on the way.
As a part-time pediatric nurse who works nights at a local hospital, Brennan also spends an hour or so most days at a nearby college, tending to students with disabilities. She's in charge of the family finances, keeps the house in order, and is scrambling to turn a spare room into a nursery. No wonder, she says, "I feel like I always look tired!" Part of the problem? Eating well and exercising have taken a backseat to everything else going on.
Her admitted control-freak tendencies and her desire to please ("I wanted to be the perfect mom," she says) sometimes get in the way of letting Joe take on more child and home responsibilities. So while she can benefit from streamlining and setting routines, she also needs to take it easy and lower her expectations, especially once baby number two comes along.
