You don't usually make children's movies. Why this one?
It's a film my own kids (Charlie, 9, and Kit, 6) could see. This was also the first time they were able to visit me on a set. Usually, I'm wearing a costume that's covered in blood or something.
In Nim's Island, your character, a writer, overcomes a fear of leaving her house in order to help a girl. Ever do anything scary for your kids' sake?
Ride on roller coasters. They love it, but it gives me a weird feeling in my stomach.
