Most women begin ovulating immediately after stopping hormonal birth control methods like the Pill. Ovulation should begin within weeks, says Paul Blumenthal, M.D., M.P.H., professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Stanford University School of Medicine in California. For some, however, it can take a few months to get menstrual cycles back on track.
If you’ve been taking birth control pills and are planning to be pregnant soon, it’s a good idea to pick the date you intend to start “trying,” and then go off your oral contraceptives a few months before that date. Use a barrier method like condoms or a diaphragm for birth control until you’re ready to start trying.
