Shirley Temple Metal Charms Recalled

May 5, 2006
Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has recalled 730,000 metal charms. The charms were distributed as a free giveaway with a purchase of certain Shirley Temple DVDs, in pink boxes that were specially marked with "Bonus Charm Bracelet Inside" or "Bonus Charm Inside" on the cover. Some boxes contained only charms; others contained charm bracelets as well. They came in various shapes, including animals, hats, treble clefs, and lollipops. The charms contain high levels of lead, which is toxic if ingested by young children.

Charms sold with the following DVD titles are affected by this recall: Curly Top, Heidi, Little Miss Broadway, Baby Take a Bow, Bright Eyes, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, Dimples, The Little Colonel, The Littlest Rebel, and The Shirley Temple Collection, Vol. 1, Vol. 2, and Vol. 3. The DVDs were sold at retail stores, by web retailers and through direct mail for $15 (single DVDs) and $30 (gift box collections).

Consumers should take the charms away from children. To return the charms and receive a free DVD, or for more information, call Fox Home Entertainment toll-free at (877) 541-2229 between 9 A.M. and 5 P.M.
