The Lemly Family
Patience, 1, Lamar, AR
"Shortly after midnight on September 5, 2005, my water broke. Once we got to the hospital, I found out that I would be on bed rest until my due date, which was almost eight weeks later! I was unhappy about being on bed rest and also very scared about the likelihood of my baby coming early.
The following Thursday evening, I began to go into labor again but this time the contractions couldn't be stopped. I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl named Patience the next morning at 2 am. She was 4 pounds, 12 ounces, and 18 inches long.
She was immediately whisked off to the ICU nursery. When I first saw her, I was filled with fear, but also an immense amount of love. She had so many wires, machines attached to her. I remember crying for what seemed like an eternity, and I felt helpless.
Patience remained in the hospital for exactly 6 weeks. Despite having difficulty breathing, several infections, and two blood transfusions, among other health issues, she was still a little fighter.
My husband and I finally got to take her home the day before my birthday. Needless to say, it was the best birthday I ever had!
Patience is now one year old, and thriving. She's a healthy 21 pounds, is full of life and is generally a very happy baby. She loves people and is full of giggles, kisses and smiles!"
