Name: Heidi Corn
Job: Marketing Manager
Due date: 10/5
How long it took: Getting pregnant definitely took a bit longer than I thought it would. In the beginning it was fun, but then it became very stressful and unsettling not knowing why I wasn’t pregnant yet. As women we spend half of lives trying not to get pregnant, and when we decide to flip the switch to mommy mood – it is not always that simple. I highly recommend reading as much as possible and trying to listen to your body (without driving yourself nuts of course).
How you told: Given that my last name is Corn, it was only appropriate to use my last name to its full advantage! I set the dinner table and placed a can of baby corn in the center of the table. Although I took the test early in the morning, I waited until my husband came home to tell him the news. When he walked in I immediately told him to look at the dinner table to see how nice I set the table, and to check out what we were having for dinner. I informed him baby corn was on the menu and he looked at me like I was nuts. He said “why would we be having baby corn for dinner?” I said “well because we are having a baby corn” – needless to say he was in complete shock and only asked me 5 times if I was serious.

Babies are often referred to as bundles of joy, but does having kids really bring happiness? According to New York Magazine’s latest cover story, no.
“Most people assume that having children will make them happier. Yet a wide variety of academic research shows that parents are not happier than their childless peers, and in many cases are less so,” Jennifer Senior writes in "All Joy and No Fun," from the July 12 issue of the magazine.
Senior cites a number of studies that support the link between parenting and feelings of discontent –- findings that show mothers are less happy than fathers (single parents are even less happy), the majority of married mothers say they crave more time for themselves, and that nearly half of the disputes between long-married couples were about their kids.

To all of the moms who endured long, trying hours of labor pains, just think: it could have been so much worse.
British teenager Amy Buck delivered a preemie baby boy after being in labor for nearly three weeks, the Daily Mail reports. OUCH.
The first-time mom began contractions at 19 weeks, developed an infection, and despite being given medication in effort to delay labor, gave birth to Daniel Barwell, who weighed in at just 1 pound, 3 ounces.
"The average labor is about 12 hours long for someone having their first baby," London obstetrician told the Daily Mail. "The longest I've heard of was 48 hours."
Share your story! How long were you in labor?

Denim is definitely having a moment. So far, 2010 has brought us an even skinnier skinny jean in the form of jeggings (jean-like leggings). Jean jackets are back in a big way. And come June, jean diapers will be the newest denim trend on the market.
For a limited time from June through July, Huggies will be adding jean-inspired diapers (Jiapers? Juggies?) to their Little Movers line. "The design helps babies stay trendy while keeping dry with the same revolutionary design and proven leakage protection that moms have come to know and trust from the Huggies brand," the company said in a release. During the hottest and stickiest of months, I'm tempted to think that maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea for a baby to forgo pants with these cheeky diapers.
Huggies Jeans Diapers are available in three sizes, from size 3 (16-28 lbs) through size 5 (over 27 lbs) for $9.59 for a jumbo pack and $19.99 for a big pack.
What do you think of denim diapers? Would you buy them for your baby?

Bad decisions abound in the Huffington Post's photo round-up of Parenting Fails. Some are silly (If you've just delivered a baby, that text can wait.) Others are downright horrifying – who puts a child next to a wild animal?

Two years after welcoming twins, Jennifer Lopez still has a giant pregnancy pillow on her bed -- only this time, she's not the one using it. Much to her amusement, husband Marc Anthony has been snuggling up to her old cushy companion. "Marc still sleeps with it to this day," she told Parade magazine.
