Jo is a writer, doula, and mom to Poppy, a wily toddler who’s not going to know what hit her when her new little brother or sister, Boo, arrives this February. When she’s not busy chasing the kiddo around, you can usually find Jo snapping pictures of the world around her, helping a mama bring her new little one into the world, or happily curled up on the couch with her husband and the latest episode of Mad Men.

Although she’s lived and worked in New York City for 6 years, Jo still considers herself a Midwesterner at heart. And while she may cloth diaper, nurse her toddler, and give birth at home, she's more than just a crunchy mom stereotype. Read more about her family's (mis)adventures at her personal blog, Outta Jo, Onto You and follow her on Twitter at @outtajo.

Eleanor Joy was born in a home waterbirth at 10:07 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7. She weighed 8lb 8oz. Read Full Post

Aside from the frequent questions about when I’m due, the other thing people seem most interested in these days is whether my toddler knows what’s coming. I usually respond, “Yes and no.”Read Full Post

This is really the only word to explain my current emotional state, and apparently that of everyone else around me as well. Everywhere I go, people are asking, “When are you due?” And the closer I get to my due date, the more I adore this question.Read Full Post

This weekend, several of my favorite women converged on my apartment to help me celebrate Boo’s pending arrival. Organized by my dearest Brooklyn friend, the Mother Blessing was casual and lighthearted, yet deeply spiritual and inspirational. I’m not sure how she managed to pull of that combo exactly, but it was perfect.Read Full Post

Last night, one of my midwives came over for the home visit and suddenly I’m realizing just how close we are to the finish line over here. *gulp* For a homebirth mom, the home visit can be a big milestone.Read Full Post

2 days ago, on the day I marked 36 weeks of pregnancy, my two year old did not take a nap. This is the first time this has happened in recent memory – maybe ever – and I don’t like it. Not one little bit.Read Full Post

I’m not feeling a huge desire to “nest” yet, even though at this point, I really wish I was. Today, my husband helped me get in the spirit, however, by recommending we start a Boo To Do list. What felt like 347 bullet points later, I started to panic. OMG WE HAVE SO MUCH TO DO! So I did what any pregnant woman would do in my situation – I sat down in my recliner and ate a bowl of ice cream. And then I got on it.Read Full Post
