How do we love Blue Ivy’s mom Beyonce? Let us count the ways:
She’s a breastfeeding role model
Moms who choose to breastfeed in public spaces have come under fire recently—but Beyonce’s right there with them. She was spotted breastfeeding her baby daughter at a cafe in the West Village last March, bringing validity and maybe even a bit of glamour to nursing.
She’s been real about her miscarriage
Beyonce recently opened up about her miscarriage, before the birth of Blue Ivy, in her HBO Documentary Life is But a Dream. After learning that her baby-to-be had no heartbeat at a checkup, she turned to music to heal: “I went into the studio and wrote the saddest song I've ever written in my life ...and it was the best form of therapy for me, because it was the saddest thing I've ever been through,” Beyonce said in the documentary. We applaud her for speaking frankly about this sad but all-too-common loss—twenty percent of pregnancies end in miscarriage.
She shares...but not too much
Sure, Blue Ivy had a Tumblr birth announcement, which read “Thank you for respecting our privacy during this beautiful time in our lives.” A few tantalizing photos were shared...and then that’s it. Although we’re dying to see more of Beyonce’s cutie, we respect that she puts her child’s privacy before her celebrity.
She’s a working mom
She's had an HBO documentary; Destiny’s Child is releasing a new album for the first time in eight years; and Beyonce’s teaming up with Pepsi, starting with the Super Bowl’s halftime show. She’s speaking out against gun violence, running a fashion line, and—oh yeah—being a mom and wife. Sure, she’s got a ton of help, but it’s still great to see a mom who’s on top of her game. Who runs the world? Bey.
