A recent trip to the supermarket ended in tears and confusion for Tori Spelling’s 5-year-old when he spotted a tabloid cover featuring a headline about his family, wrote Spelling in a blog post on her website yesterday.
Spelling’s son, who is learning to read, made out the words “Divorce” and “Who will get the kids?” beside photos of his parents on the cover of Star Magazine. Spelling rushed her family out of the supermarket, but the damage had already been done.
“By the time he was fastening himself into his car seat he was asking, ‘Why is someone getting us?? Where are you and Dad going?’” recounts Spelling in her blog post.
After nearly 24 years in the business, Spelling says she’s “built up a pretty thick skin” to negative and untrue comments, but believes her children shouldn’t be subjected to the lies.
“I’ve always had shots taken at me,” wrote Tori Spelling on her website. “But my children are another story. Keep them out of it!”
Spelling did her best to calm her children, but how does a mom explain tabloids to her four children, all under 6 years old?
“Daddy and I are very happy and in love,” Spelling said to her children on the way home from the supermarket. “There will be no divorce and all of us will remain together as a family.”
