Q&A with La La Anthony
March 9, 2012

La La Anthony and NBA star hubby Carmelo score a slam dunk when it comes to their Full Court Life.
Q: Is it tough being married to an athlete who has to be on the road with his team a lot?
A: Not really, because I'm a huge advocate of giving each other space. Everyone needs to have something outside the relationship for themselves. And Melo is really involved with Kiyan, 4—he loves going to basketball practice with his dad! We always make time to Skype or talk when he's away, so that definitely helps.
Q: What has motherhood taught you?
A: Patience—and how spot-on my own mother was about everything!
Q: Do you find having a child and a career challenging?
A: It's crazy! I commend women who do it all every day. I want to be as hands-on with Kiyan as possible, so I try not to use a lot of babysitters. Now that we're in New York, my family is here, so they help me out, too.
Q: What do you think of when you hear the word “marriage”?
A: Compromise. Two people with two different personalities always have to be willing to compromise.
Q: Does your husband—like most men—have any habits that drive you crazy?
A: He plays music really loud! I constantly lower the volume.
Q: What does Melo do to make you feel appreciated?
A: Recently I was on the phone with him complaining that I had a headache. Later, when I got home, he had Excedrin and a glass of water waiting. He heard me!
