My son went through a phase of looking at maps as he would drift off to sleep. He loved learning about the states, brushing up on U.S. geography and also tracking trips of friends and family wherever they traveled. Perhaps there’s a future in cartography or world exploration that awaits him. 

If your kids are equally interested in the lay of the land, Kids Maps is a great app for helping them learn their 50 states. The screen presents a complete map of the U.S. and kids have to determine where each state goes. There are fun facts that are given (did you know that the state flower of Alabama is the camellia?), as well as encouraging prompts as puzzle pieces are put into place. 

It would be great if in addition to placement, the app also featured capitals. But for little ones just starting to understand the concept of U.S. geography – and who like puzzles – this is a fun app to learn with.
