It’s a beautiful day in this neighborhood,
A beautiful day for a neighbor,
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?
Won’t you be my neighbor?
Oh, the wonderful Mister Rogers. The image of him putting on his sweater and changing his shoes is something that many of us will always remember. Although his show is long over, his legacy lives on with the announcement of a new PBS animated series called “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood.” This series shows the next generation of friends from the original Neighborhood of Make Believe and stars Daniel Tiger. Remember him?
The story will revolve around the 4-year-old son of the Daniel Tiger from Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, also named Daniel Tiger. Daniel and his preschool friends will take viewers through important life lessons such as friendship, learning, sharing, love of music and other lessons that Mister Rogers himself wanted to convey.
Lesli Rotenberg, Senior Vice President of Children’s Media at PBS says, “Fred Rogers revolutionized children’s media with ‘Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,’ and ‘Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood’ continues on this path of innovation, helping the next generation of young children learn and grow in new ways.”
As a by-product of the Mister Rogers era, I’m personally thrilled at the announcement of this new show and am so excited for my own kids to view programming of that caliber. The only bad thing about this new show? It’s not launching until the Fall of 2012. Hopefully, it will be worth the wait.
