Track Santa’s Christmas Eve Journey with NORAD

When you think of Aerospace Defense Operations, Santa Claus isn’t necessarily the first thing that comes to mind, but NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command), has actually been responsible for tracking Santa’s Christmas Eve flight for more than 50 years.

What better agency than the one that monitors all airspace activity to track Santa’s exact whereabouts? NORAD Tracks Santa is a great site that kids can refer to on Christmas Eve to find out where in the world Santa is. Using a very high-tech combination of radar, satellite, Santa cam and fighter jets (yes, fighter jets!), NORAD keeps a close eye on its official radar system to collect data and then use Google Earth to broadcast his exact whereabouts to families around the world.

And luckily, if radar signals are down, NORAD reports that Rudolph’s red nose emits an infrared beam that further helps them detect and track Santa’s path.

In addition to facts about NORAD tracking Santa and its exact techniques, there are also a new game featured each down in “Countdown Village” as we approach the big day.

NORAD Tracks Santa is also available as a free mobile app for iOS and Android devices.
