Last year, the VTech InnoTab launched onto the scene as a kids’ tablet that offered exciting features such as multimedia content, photo/video recorder, an e-reader, an MP3 player, an art studio, an educational gaming device and much more. Now that more than a year has passed since its debut onto the marketplace, it’s no surprise that the VTech has come out with an updated version with its InnoTab 2.
While many of the original features remain the same, there are a couple new ones, most notably a 180 degree revolving camera, dramatically increased storage capacity from 256 MB to 2 GB and a built-in microphone for color commentary when kids take their own videos.
If you have the first generation InnoTab and are looking to upgrade, you’ll be relieved to know that all existing games in your collection can still be used on version 2. But it may take your kids a while to get through the 17 games and apps that come with the InnoTab 2 before you revert to your older games. Any additional games, apps and e-books can be purchased through PC hook-up via VTech’s Learning Lodge Navigator or from any participating retailer.
What I also like about the InnoTab series is the ability to upload home photos and videos, which my kids love as well. Kids can completely personalize their tablets with the music and multimedia content that they like and that they star in. The InnoTab still requires four AA batteries, but you can purchase a separate AC adapter and car charger so you still have a power option if you’re without replacements when the batteries run out of juice.
And along with an upgrade of the InnoTab, VTech also released a new version of the MobiGo, the company’s popular educational device more geared towards gaming and app usage. The MobiGo 2 also boasts new features such as a built-in microphone, a stylus, increased storage, the ability to import personal photos and more.
Both new products offer improvements to devices that were already pretty great as they were.
The VTech InnoTab is priced at $79.99 and comes in pink or blue, and the MobiGo 2 retails for $59.99.
