I worked from home on Tuesday, so JD and I met our friends at the park. It was more exciting than usual, because my friends Amy and Ed, brought along their two-week-old baby girl, Audrey Marina (squeeeee). JD and their older daughter, Lily, have been buddies since before they started walking, when I met Amy at the library for Mommy & Me story-time. On the way to the park I prepped JD for the event.
“We’re going to meet Lily’s little sister,” I said.
“No mommy, it needs to come out of Amy’s belly?” JD said.
“It came out!” I said.
“It did?” he asked. “How.”

Good morning, lovelies! Happy Royal Wedding Day! I watched the wedding this morning—well kind of. I’m working from home today (and treating myself to a mani/pedi!!!!!!!) so JD and I lounged around all morning in our jammies and watched The Today Show on NBC. JD is now at school and I just chuckled when Matt Lauer said, “Years from now, people will ask, where were you when Prince William and Princess Catherine got married?” Me?Read Full Post

Ever since I became a mom, I have been in total mom-mode—with everyone, not just JD. It got me wondering if other moms feel this natural instinct to protect others, too. I don’t mean to come off as a person who didn’t care about others prior to giving birth, I can assure you I did, but being a mom sort of amplified it.Read Full Post

A milestone is taking place tonight! JD is performing in his school’s Spring Showcase. O.M.G I am so excited to see the singing and dancing numbers—especially since JD has given me tons of previews. Of course, I want to bring 20 people along to cheer JD on (and show him off) but when I asked the administrator at his school if guests were allowed she informed me only parents and siblings are invited since it’s a big class. Then she said since it’s “just me,” I can bring my parents or brothers along. “Just me?”Read Full Post

Last week I blogged about the debut of my friend Matt Logelin’s memoir, Two Kisses for Maddy. What a treat I have for you today—an exclusive interview with his live-in girlfriend, Brooke, who has been quite a mystery to many of Matt’s fans over the past year. (Not to me—we’re texting buddies!) Here, she sheds light on what it’s like to go from being a single lady to dating a widower with a pre-schooler.Read Full Post

I am admittedly not one for schedules. I like to live life as it comes and goes—and really enjoy! Yesterday it was 60 degrees and sunny. JD and I hit up the farmer’s market at around 9 A.M. then went food shopping at the grocery store. We got home around 11:30 A.M. and I prepared lunch (fresh fruit, veggies and turkey sandwiches) while JD played cars in the living room. We ate and chatted while a crisp breeze filled our condo from all of the open windows. After lunch, JD usually takes a two-hour nap, but it was too nice to sleep—we hit the park with friends!Read Full Post

OK, I think it’s time for me to weigh in on the J.Crew ad featuring a mom painting her son’s toenails pink. As a single mom of a three-year-old boy, my big question is, honestly, did the blond boy in the photo ask his mom to paint his nails pink? Because, if he did, cool! If not, why is she painting her son’s toenails pink?Read Full Post

I met Matt Logelin in June of 2008. Well, I met him over the Internet—wait, let me explain. I was penning the Storked! blog for glamour.com and one of my readers sent me a (dating myself) myspace.com message alerting me to Matt’s blog. I checked it out to learn that his high school sweetheart/wife, Liz, died of a pulmonary embolism 27 hours after giving birth to their daughter, Madeline.Read Full Post

Sometimes I feel like single motherhood makes me more neurotic. Case in point: Over the weekend, springtime allergies got the best of JD. He was all stuffed up and his nose was running constantly. He didn't have a fever and when I asked him what hurt he said, “My nose.” I asked why. “It’s all wet.” So nothing really hurt, he was just bothered by the discomfort of the congestion. This is pretty much JD’s first time dealing with seasonal allergies and I’ve never given him allergy meds before. I have Children’s Benadryl in the medicine cabinet in case of an allergic reaction to food or a bee sting, so I pulled it out, knowing it would likely alleviate the runny nose and congestion. But there was a problem.Read Full Post
