I’m never prepared to be sick and take care of JD on my own, even though my medicine cabinet is stocked with meds, tissues and spare cans of gingerale. This week I got hit with a stomach virus + sinus infection (needed a Zpack for that!). My head felt like someone smacked me with a baseball bat, then held me under water and when I wasn’t puking I was drinking gingerale and nibbling on crackers. Needless to say I needed to call for reinforcements. Who did I call? Who would YOU call?Read Full Post

Over the weekend I took JD to his school’s annual summer carnival. There were games/prizes, spin art, pop corn, hot dogs, cotton candy and a chance to soak teachers (JD nailed his Pre-K 3 teacher) in a dunk tank (all proceeds benefited a local child with a severe illness). After we played games and ate, JD ran around the fenced in playground area with his friends and I hung back at the picnic tables and chatted with the parents. JD’s best buddy, *DJ’s dad, *Pete was there with his three boys alone, because his wife, a nurse, was working a weekend shift. In between chatting about the Lice scare (we're still all clear!), JD’s upcoming birthday party and the play-list on my iPod (loving Adele and Regina Spektor at the moment), Pete asked me about JD’s dad. What did I say? What should a single mom say when someone asks? First off, RELAX.Read Full Post

Big thanks to Sesame Place for inviting JD, Uncle Bri and me to experience the park and all it had to offer! We enjoyed whirling rides, water slides, colorful shows and furry friends up close! As a single mom, I have to admit, I was deeeeelighted Uncle Bri came along. I don’t like taking JD to giant places with major crowds alone. He’s fast and his hand easily squirms out of mine—in fact, he pretty much has this mastered now! Eeeps. I also don't like BIG rides, haha! But my boys do!Read Full Post

A lot of couples find themselves pregnant and not married, or even engaged -- or in love! But, that doesn’t mean they breakup and run for the hills. When Lauren Brame, 23 and Daniel Overbey, 25 discovered their unplanned pregnancy (eeeps!), they took a deep breath and moved in with Daniel's parents to save money and plan—not to have a shot-gun wedding, especially since they hadn’t been dating for a long time (I know the feeling). In fact, Daniel waited for his baby to arrive so he—or she could ask his mommy to marry his daddy (how could she say no? Yikes, did she?). Squeeee…Keep reading for the cute details.Read Full Post

My poor little guy has pink eye in both eyes. He woke up Sunday morning at 6:45 A.M., but I knew something was wrong because he was crying and calling for me—and he usually comes running into my room, jumps in my bed and asks for “milky” and cartoons. I found him sitting up in bed, holding his left eye and crying, “it’s stuck! I can’t see you.” I knew right away my kiddo had pink eye. I led him into the bathroom and applied a warm compress. After I cleaned his eyes, we played and ate breakfast. At 8:30 A.M. I called our awesome pediatrician practice that has weekend hours. I made an appointment for 9:45 A.M.Read Full Post

The best part of my day was (and always is) picking JD up from school. But not today. Today, his teacher handed me a paper that read: “Unfortunately we have confirmed cases of head lice within the school. You child’s classroom has been affected. Head lice is highly contagious and we need your help to diligently check your child’s head everyday for the next few weeks.”Read Full Post

Iiii-yiii-iiii, I had one of those mornings. As a self-employed writer, sometimes I am required to work in a magazine office—like today. I absolutely love it! Love putting on a dress, makeup and getting an iced coffee on the way to work. This also means the morning is rushed. Before I go to work, JD gets dropped off at summer camp. Today he did not feel like eating breakfast, washing up or getting dressed. Stress.Read Full Post

Holy heat wave! JD and I planned to visit Uncle Carlo in Bradley Beach, NJ this past weekend and hit up the Asbury Splash park, but we bailed. It was too hot to even go to the beach! (And there was a power outage down there! Eeeeps!) But, with a nearly 4-year-old to entertain all weekend, the heat didn’t mean we sat around in our condo with AC pumping watch Toy Story 3. After the jump, see how JD and I beat the heat this weekend! So fun!Read Full Post

Happy Friday! I wanted to share with you some things JD and I are loving these days. Enjoy my reviews!

Water play shoes: JD goes to summer camp three-days-a-week. He gets to participate in fun splash days (think water tables and sprinklers on a fenced in grassy area). He’s required to wear swim trunks, a swim shirt—and water shoes (for safety purposes). Keen Newport H2 is a stylish summer sandal with an elastic cord lace and adjustable hook and loop strap, that lets kiddos put them on and take them off by themselves (JD is not a baby and can do this all by himself!) The quick-drying webbing is perfect for splash days at school, or super-hot days on the beach when JD is walking from sand to surf.

For the past couple of months I’ve been trying to get JD to take a shower. He refused my attempts to lead him into the shower and clung to me as I attempted to lift him over the tub, with the shower running. Finally, two nights ago, we reached a milestone: JD took his first shower and enjoyed it—and I got told off on Facebook and deleted by a fan for it!Read Full Post
