What's Next for Lori

Lori has been wonderful to work with these last 6 months. She took recommendations willingly and has made great strides financially. Equally impressive to me has been her optimistic attitude through some difficult and stressful moments. This positive attitude will see her through graduate school and well beyond.

Financial Planning 101

Well it's our final week so I will sign off with Financial Planning 101. This has been quite an experience. It took me on a journey VERY different than what I expected, and from Leah's last blog, it appears very different from what she expected as well. But I think everyone involved learned alot! And for me, that's what life is all about -- lifelong learning!

The Bitter End is Really a Sweet Beginning

You can't get something for nothing. When I signed up for Boot Camp, I was entering a contest to get financial help. What did that mean to me? A wad of money to pay off my existing bills and get a fresh start would have been great. (Hey, I am just being painfully honest--finally. I was losing my house, my stability and my bearings. My husband said I was a dreamer, that this was never going to happen. He urged me to drop out of this process from the beginning.)

What I Learned

The Budget Boot Camp is coming to a close this week, although for me, if felt like it really ended a while ago: Natasha has not been communicating with me for about a couple of weeks -- unfortunately, an all too common trend in our relationship.

My Long Journey

I heard just today that I’ve been approved for the apartment I applied for at the beginning of the week! I’ll be on my own two feet in early April. Wow. To me, this is the culmination of a lot of self-examination, learning, and new choices -- especially over the past 6 months working with Derek and being a part of this project.

Can This Budget Be Saved?

Well my time with Leah and Eric is drawing to a close. Next week is the last week of Boot Camp. I have so many mixed feelings about the past 5 months working with them.

First of all, when I was first approached by Parenting magazine to be part of Budget Boot Camp, I had some major trepidation. For one thing, I know that financially, some families' situations are beyond repair. In fact, I made the comment, "Some people can't be saved."

It All Starts With Me

There are some things that I have learned over the last few months regarding financial advice:
