Adorable Hand-Me-Downs!

Since I became pregnant with my daughter, thoughts about money have worn heavy on my mind. Even before I began thinking of having a baby, I hit my sister up for all my niece's clothes, and we’ve also been lucky enough to have plenty of hand me downs -- from her and other friends and family -- donated to us. We actually have clothes until my daughter is five years old! We just need to supplement with some of the essentials.

The Holiday Military Ball

The feeling was bittersweet when Eric told me that it was mandatory that we attend the Holiday Military Ball. Eric has told me about the balls in the past, but we have never been able to attend one together. He has always wanted to attend one with me. The only problem was that he needed his dress blues.

Why Financial Planning?

I had an interesting talk with Leah on Friday. She wanted to know what I do with my "paying clients" -- what the process was and what services I provided. I was happy to share the entire financial planning process with her, but also to explain that she and Eric are not my typical clients. My average client comes to me with money that they want help investing...when they come to me with significant debt and no investable assets, I refer them to debt counselors and ask that they return when the debt is paid off or at least manageable.

Happy to Have a Plan!

After I sent the worksheets to Gerry last week, we spoke for a long time on the phone. Gerry seems to have a plan of attack! I'm so excited.

I haven't sent him the daily figures because I had finals last week and so needed to study, but I’ll get him everything he needs ASAP.

I don't want him to quit on me just yet. I'm ready to turn over a new leaf and get myself situated for the new year!

What a Difference a Week Makes

Last week, I wrote I was ready to pull the plug on Boot Camp -- I'd been working with Natasha a couple months, and still hadn't received the basic information I needed to help her. It felt like we were going nowhere. But lo and behold, Natasha pulled through.

Next Step for Lori: Build a Budget

The excitement Lori was feeling when she called about the Library job offer gushed through the phone. Her thoughts are already turning to budgeting and how quickly she can be in her own place while continuing to meet both monthly as well as longer term expenses. Lori is beginning to consider many of the issues she will now face -- happily -- as she begins to reassume 100% of the financial responsibilities she has been fortunate to share between state assistance and her mom.

I Got a Job!

I did it! I got a job! I start on January 4th and am REALLY looking forward to it. Not just for the paycheck, but out of all the interviews I’ve gone on, this is the position I was hoping for the most. It feels really, really good.
