If you own a Medela Pump in Style Advanced breastpump, heads up: It might be one of the "small percent" of pumps affected by a recall announced in a press release.

There's so much to be wary of during pregnancy: cold cutscaffeinealcoholsushi. Most pregnant women are super-careful with just about everything they do.

This makes the findings of a study from the University of California San Francisco all the more disheartening. The study found multiple chemicals, some banned since the 1970s, in the blood or urine of all 268 pregnant women subjects.

Over the weekend a piece appeared in the Wall Street Journal by Amy Chua about the virtues of Chinese parenting versus Western parenting, excerpted from Chua's book Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother. "Chinese" is not meant to refer to just that ethnicity -- rather, it describes the type of person who follows it (there are mothers of Chinese heritage who don't follow Chinese parenting methods, and Western moms who do).

The parents of a 14-year-old boy are suing their Greensburg, IN school district for kicking their son off the basketball team for having too-long hair, according to The Indianapolis Star.

I was initially reminded of a similar incident last year, where a 4-year-old boy was suspended from his Dallas kindergarten class for the same offense. Ludicrous!

But after digging deeper, this case may fit better in the Sue-Happy Parents File.Read Full Post

Okay, I'll admit it: My name is Kate, I am 25, and I love playing with Play-Doh. When I used to babysit, I'd always suggest it and hope the kid would be up for it. That, or coloring books. There's something very satisfying about selecting just the right color (Cerulean or Cornflower?) from a fresh pack of 64, the Bentley of crayon packs. The sharpener in the back really put it over the top.

Turns out I'm not alone. In an informal office poll, other Parenting.com staffers ‘fessed up to the kiddie stuff they actually like to play with, including:Read Full Post

Preparing your first child to be a brother or sister can be a big hurdle in second pregnancies. Two of our Project Pregnancy bloggers, Sally Wilson and Jenny Feldon, have asked for readers' advice, and we recently compiled a list of tips on how to tell your child about a new baby.

One common tip is giving your child a baby doll to play with, so you can show her how you're supposed to hold and feed a real baby. MamAmor has taken this approach one step further, creating handmade pregnant, birthing and breastfeeding dolls which leave little to the imagination.Read Full Post
