Baby Asks Mommy To Marry Daddy

A lot of couples find themselves pregnant and not married, or even engaged -- or in love! But, that doesn’t mean they breakup and run for the hills. When Lauren Brame, 23 and Daniel Overbey, 25 discovered their unplanned pregnancy (eeeps!), they took a deep breath and moved in with Daniel's parents to save money and plan—not to have a shot-gun wedding, especially since they hadn’t been dating for a long time (I know the feeling). In fact, Daniel waited for his baby to arrive so he—or she could ask his mommy to marry his daddy (how could she say no? Yikes, did she?). Squeeee…Keep reading for the cute details.

Pink Eye In Both Eyes (And A Lice Update!)

My poor little guy has pink eye in both eyes. He woke up Sunday morning at 6:45 A.M., but I knew something was wrong because he was crying and calling for me—and he usually comes running into my room, jumps in my bed and asks for “milky” and cartoons. I found him sitting up in bed, holding his left eye and crying, “it’s stuck! I can’t see you.” I knew right away my kiddo had pink eye. I led him into the bathroom and applied a warm compress. After I cleaned his eyes, we played and ate breakfast. At 8:30 A.M. I called our awesome pediatrician practice that has weekend hours. I made an appointment for 9:45 A.M.

Let's Talk About...LICE

The best part of my day was (and always is) picking JD up from school. But not today. Today, his teacher handed me a paper that read: “Unfortunately we have confirmed cases of head lice within the school. You child’s classroom has been affected. Head lice is highly contagious and we need your help to diligently check your child’s head everyday for the next few weeks.”

Negotiating With A Pre-Schooler: Yay Or Nay?

Iiii-yiii-iiii, I had one of those mornings. As a self-employed writer, sometimes I am required to work in a magazine office—like today. I absolutely love it! Love putting on a dress, makeup and getting an iced coffee on the way to work. This also means the morning is rushed. Before I go to work, JD gets dropped off at summer camp. Today he did not feel like eating breakfast, washing up or getting dressed. Stress.

How Did You Beat The Heat This Weekend?

Holy heat wave! JD and I planned to visit Uncle Carlo in Bradley Beach, NJ this past weekend and hit up the Asbury Splash park, but we bailed. It was too hot to even go to the beach! (And there was a power outage down there! Eeeeps!) But, with a nearly 4-year-old to entertain all weekend, the heat didn’t mean we sat around in our condo with AC pumping watch Toy Story 3. After the jump, see how JD and I beat the heat this weekend! So fun!

TGIF: Products and Single Mom Reads You'll Love!

Happy Friday! I wanted to share with you some things JD and I are loving these days. Enjoy my reviews!

Water play shoes: JD goes to summer camp three-days-a-week. He gets to participate in fun splash days (think water tables and sprinklers on a fenced in grassy area). He’s required to wear swim trunks, a swim shirt—and water shoes (for safety purposes). Keen Newport H2 is a stylish summer sandal with an elastic cord lace and adjustable hook and loop strap, that lets kiddos put them on and take them off by themselves (JD is not a baby and can do this all by himself!) The quick-drying webbing is perfect for splash days at school, or super-hot days on the beach when JD is walking from sand to surf.

Do You Baby Your Pre-Schooler?

For the past couple of months I’ve been trying to get JD to take a shower. He refused my attempts to lead him into the shower and clung to me as I attempted to lift him over the tub, with the shower running. Finally, two nights ago, we reached a milestone: JD took his first shower and enjoyed it—and I got told off on Facebook and deleted by a fan for it!

Naptime for Mom: Do or Don't

Do.

As a working single mom, I tend to have this constant stream of non-stop energy and feel it is fueled by the fact that I do have to take care of JD and there is no one to hand him off to, unless I schedule a sitter or ask family to help out—point I’m trying to make: There’s no immediate help. I could have used it yesterday, too.

Apartment Living With A Child: There's NO Room!

JD and I live in a two-bedroom condo. There’s a spacious office nook, kitchen with breakfast bar + table, washer/dryer (SCORE!), my room with one walk-in closet (SCORE) and one spare closet. JD’s room is painted green and overlooks the grassy courtyard and patio. The bathroom is huge! The living room is spacious. One problem: No playroom. This means every inch of my condo is dedicated to JD. Even the balcony, which hosts a water table and chalkboard easel. The fridge and pantry closet display his art. The tub is filled with a net bag of bath toys and cars. My desk has a collection of painted rocks (or paper weights) on it and my bed usually has a stuffed toy or two from JD’s room on it. Now as for the living room.

Never Say A Negative Word About Your Ex: Your Child Will Believe You

My mom and Uncle Brian watched JD today because I was on-site at a freelance job. My mom texted me that she was in the courtyard looking for JD’s swim shirt, because it must have blew off the balcony, where she hung it to dry. “I can’t find it down here,” she texted. I wrote back. “It was seven bucks—it’s OK.” Then I texted my best friend and JD’s godmother, Katie, who lives directly below us: “Hey, is JD’s blue swim shirt on your balcony.” She texted back: “Yeah.” When I got home it was hanging on my French door knob.
