Should Ashlee Simpson Get Primary Custody of Bronx? What About Pete Wentz?

It’s not news, but another celeb couple has bitten the dust. Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz are getting divorced. It’s not a clean break because they have a 2-year-old son, Bronx. Even though Pete has always been in Bronx’s life, Ashlee is reportedly filing for Primary Physical Custody—and Pete is saying Hell No! Good for him! Why would Ashlee get more time than Pete? When married couples split up, shouldn’t they just share time 50/50? Isn’t this best for the child? You’d think, but according to Celeste Liversidge, Family Law Attorney in California, it’s not the case.

My Son Got Hurt At Daycare. DRA-MA

Last week: It was a typical Friday morning. I was freelancing at a women’s magazine office (a temp jobber) and JD was 40 minutes away at school. So, there I was logging in style numbers with a pile of bikinis at my feet, when my cell phone vibrates. It flashes XYZ School. I panic. Why the hell is JD’s school calling me at 11 A.M. Oh God.

Teen Mom 2: Jenelle Is Not A Teen Mom

This week’s episode of Teen Mom 2 focusing on Jenelle’s storyline got me really upset. I would like to say foremost, that I do feel bad for Jenelle, because her mother, Barbara is verbally abusive. She calls her a whore, slut and tells her that she is no good. That said, Barbara shed a tear and told Jenelle to leave Keifer and asked her to stay, but as per usual, Jenelle chose herself over her son, Jace. I think Jenelle needs to have a glass of cold water thrown in her face and for someone to scream, “Cut the crap.”

Judging Other Moms: Do You Do It?

I loved Erin’s Parenting Post blog on how she felt judged when she took her son Alex with her to pick up a few bottles of wine for a dinner party. I actually was judged hardcore over the weekend. On Saturday JD and I joined our friends Megan, Dustin and Riley for a day at the NJ Children’s Museum. All of the exhibits are “Please Touch,” so the kids had a blast. Since we were out all afternoon, naptime went out the window and we didn’t really care because we knew it meant the kids would go to sleep 1-2-3 that evening. After two hours and change at the museum we were all starving and it was closing in on dinnertime. We decided to go to The Cheesecake Factory. YUM!

Let's Give Dads A Little More Credit, Please!

JD and I needed something fun to do on Sunday morning, so I hopped online to see if this nearby indoor playground had open play hours. They did. Only it was Daddy and Me Time from 9:00 to 10:30. This is because our society thinks that Dads only participate on Sundays after working hard all week. There was even a note that said: Dads come and join us for Daddy & Me on Sunday mornings. We won't tell if you're surfing the web, while you're kids are having fun! I found this hilarious. HILARIOUS. Can we puh-lease give dads a little more credit? Seriously, this is coming from a single mom whose son's father doesn't participate.

Single Mom Bragging Rights: My Son Is Awesome And So Am I!

JD had school on Monday despite that it was President’s Day. During circle time his teachers discussed presidents and our country with the children. When asked if anyone knew who the current president was…

Places to Make Single Mom Friends: The Dentist

I went to the dentist yesterday and I was not thrilled about it. My last visit was when I lived in NYC. I lived in NYC before I had JD. JD is 3 and change. You get the point. I don’t really even have a dentist in NJ anymore, so I made an appointment at JD’s since they offer pediatric and adult services. JD went to the dentist for the first time in September. The staff was friendly. The office was bright. We left with toothbrushes, paste, stickers, a balloon and a toy car. I later got a thank you note and a gift card to Dunkin Donuts from the staff. Nice.

Brandi Glanville Puts LeAnn Rimes on Blast on Twitter! Tsk, Tsk.

Did you read about the recent public spat between Brandi Glanville and country singer LeAnn Rimes? Ugh, it’s cringe-worthy! As you all know, Eddie Cibrian and LeAnn met while filming a Lifetime movie. The steamy sex scenes they filmed translated off-screen and the two began an affair. Eddie divorced Brandi, but it wasn’t a clean break because the couple has two kids, Mason, 7 and Jake, 3. They currently have equal custody over their children, which means LeAnn sees them a lot. She’s been photographed on the sidelines of Mason’s soccer games and walking hand-in-hand with Jake. This shouldn’t be a bad thing, but of course Brandi doesn’t see LeAnn as a step-mom—she sees her as the woman who broke up her marriage. Putting that aside (I mean, Eddie and LeAnn are together and there are children involved), I think LeAnn is doing a nice job with the kids.

Most Americans Don't Accept Single Moms: Wah-Wah-Wah!

This just in: According to a new poll of attitudes toward the country's soaring number of non-traditional families, most Americans (including Ann Coulter) still view single mothers as detrimental to society. Same-sex couples, couples that are not married with kids and childless women are more accepted according to Pew Research Center’s Social and Demographic trends.

Are You Freaked Out By Your Married Friends?

I have a single mom friend who often feels uncomfortable hanging out with married couples and their kids. “I feel like the third wheel,” she’s said. “Or like it makes *Danny feel bad because his friend *Jen has a dad, but he doesn’t.” I personally have no problem spending time with traditional families, despite that I’m part of a modern family. I think it’s important for JD to see other types of families, just like I think it’s important for families comprised of mom-dad-2 kids-and a golden retriever to educate their kids on the modern family. Most of my friends are married with kids and I love spending time with them. We have taco Tuesday, barbeques in the summer and spend evenings at our houses enjoying a glass of wine while our kids play. Most recently, I took JD bowling for the first time with our friends Dustin, Megan and Riley who is almost 2. We had a ball! After the jump, some really cute pics!
