My Son Is A Table Wanderer

Every night I prepare dinner. Whether it’s baked chicken, beans and rice, cavatelli and broccoli, leftovers, spaghetti and meatballs, grilled cheese, microwaved chicken nuggets and frozen veggies (for JD and cereal for me) or takeout, there is a meal on the table. The table is set with two plates, utensils, cups and napkins. There’s a pretty little bamboo plant center. “Dinner’s ready,” I call.

Be Honest: Do You Talk To Your Parents Everyday?

“Do you talk to your parents everyday?” I overheard my coworker *Jane say to another coworker *Lucy.

“I don’t, actually,” said Lucy.

“You don’t? I do!” said Jane.

“Christine, do you?” Jane asked.

“Oh don’t ask her. She has a kid. It’s a whole new level of communication,” said Lucy.

JD's Christmas Gifts: Installment 1 (Your Preschoolers Will Love Them Too!)

Despite what Robin Robinson thinks, Santa is coming to our condo this year and he's real and we love him! I’ve done my research and JD wrote a letter to Santa. After the jump, some pressies JD is getting this year, that I know your preschoolers will love too!

My Single Mom Gripes

Here’s the first installment of my list of single mom gripes. I wish I didn’t have a running list in my head, but I do, because I’ve unfortunately experienced the following…

My Kid Found A Christmas Gift

This morning while I was in the shower for three minutes JD found his Batmobile and Batman in my closet. I ordered it from Target.com and it came in a giant box, so for space, I ditched the box and tossed the toy on top of two big bags of his other gifts. This was me being lazy and underestimating my preschooler.

Has Your Child Ever Mistakenly Called Someone Dad?

Over the weekend my father took us on our annual tree-shopping run. Since JD’s first Christmas my dad has always taken us tree shopping—call it a tradition. It was warm, sunny and hoody-appropriate weather. The tree lot smelled of Earth, dirt and pine.

Single Moms' Sons Can Succeed: Here's How I'm Doing It

Three years ago when Michael Phelps won eight gold medals in the Beijing games and President Obama was elected as President of the United States of America, I felt like I could definitely, without fail raise a strong, successful boy, even though his father isn’t around—both Obama and Phelps were raised by single moms.

I Am Thankful for A B C...

Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful! Here are my ABC's of thanks!

A: JD’s biological father. His name starts with A. He gave me my son. Thank you, A!

B: Brian (My little brother and JD’s cool uncle)

C: Carlo (My big brother and JD’s Godfather) ...

Have Your Friendships Changed Since Becoming A Mom?

I find it hard to maintain my friendships with my friends from New York City. There, I said it. I’m saying it because a friend recently called me out on it. When JD was first born, I happily loaded him into the Jeep and cruised over the GWB. I call this the denial stage.

Newsflash: Child Support Isn't Mad Money

I took JD to the NJ Children’s Museum last Thursday. It was a weekday so the place was empty, which meant JD had free reign and really got to explore the “Please Touch” exhibits. We went on our own so I didn’t have any mom friends to chat with, but that didn’t stop the mom chit-chat.
