Minnesota - Healthy Living Task Force
September 29, 2011

I'm going to share what's going RIGHT, right here in my district!
After returning from DC this spring I made an ask of our School Board to step-up and remove sugary milk from our schools- our school already banned soda so it sounded reasonable to me, I didn't know what I was in for. I thought, "this is a small step in the right direction, let's get people thinking about school lunches." From there I was interviewed by newspapers, TV news and Jamie Oliver's team; kids wrote in letters to the editor on their opinions on the issues (way to work it into the classroom teachers!) the ball was diffidently rolling. I gained support from fellow Moms and community members and by the end of the school year it was declared that our district would add a new committee to review these types of issues.
Our "Healthy Living Task Force" has had our first meeting this fall and I am excited to be part of this team! Our first order of business is to look at what's for lunch and evaluate each meal. We have many ideas for going forward and as we gain more insights to our weaknesses I feel confident that this team will correct and alter our district for the better!
