Meet the 2012 Mom Congress California Delegate
June 6, 2012
Liberty Naud is the 2012 Mom Congress Delegate for California. She is an Army veteran, mother of one and founder of Science Math and Robotic Technology Education, a STEM-based non-profit located in Coachella Valley. Liberty is part of the Coalition for Science after School, the CVEP Advanced Tech Council and is very very passionate about making science and engineering a priority in schools across the region.
School Involvement: Founded the PTA at my son’s elementary school, founded 23 elementary and middle school robotics programs and resident “second-mom” to at least a dozen children in four other schools.
One thing that is going great in education in your state: The incredible support from the state to help build academies and pathways within the schools.
One thing you wish could be improved in education in your state: A more serious focus on Gifted and Talented education. It is not considered special education in our state, and therefore is grossly underfunded.
Secret indulgence: Sci-Fi Books on tape between meetings.
Your hero: Dean Kamen—inventor, entrepreneur and founder of FIRST Robotics.
Favorite extracurricular activities when you were in school: MESA (Math Engineering Science Achievement) and Young Astronauts,
Favorite subject in school (and why): Choir–I LOVE singing and choir gave me an outlet to express myself.
Most rewarding/challenging stage of parenthood thus far (and why): Birth. Everything else is just too easy.
Favorite family tradition: Morning cuddles while the we all talk about what is going to happen for the day in a big puppy pile
Favorite family activities: Game nights! Love love love playing games with the boys.
