Meet the 2012 Mom Congress Connecticut Delegate
June 20, 2012
Stephanie Calhoun is the 2012 Mom Congress Delegate for Connecticut. She is a mother to four wonderful children and proud wife to a career Naval Officer. Stephanie is a strong believer in neighborhood schools and the community they can create—she loves being a part of her school community!
What book is currently on your nightstand? Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer.
One thing that is going great in education in your state: Transitioning to Common Core State Standards.
One thing you wish could be improved in education in your state: A more equitable way to fund education with less reliance on local property taxes.
Secret indulgence: Curling up with a good book. As a busy mom of four, spending a day reading is better than a spa day!
Your hero: My husband is my hero. He has spent 25 years in the US Navy. He works incredibly hard providing for and spending time with our family. He is an extraordinary man.
Favorite extracurricular activities when you were in school: I was a cheerleader and I LOVED IT!
Favorite subject in school (and why): I think my favorite subject was Social Studies. I really enjoy(ed) learning about history and thinking about how those lessons can be applied to current life.
Most rewarding/challenging stage of parenthood thus far (and why): My children are all still very young. I am really enjoying the ages we are at right now (11, 7, 4, and 2). They all still want to cuddle but are really beginning to be independent. We can go someplace without a diaper bag AND they all walk to the car on their own, like four little ducks in a row!
Favorite family tradition: Gingerbread house decorating party with friends.
Favorite family activities: Family Game Night is always a hit in our house.
