Meet the 2012 Mom Congress Idaho Delegate
July 25, 2012
Emily Perkes is the 2012 Mom Congress Delegate for Idaho. She lives in Blackfoot with her three kids and a very supportive husband. Emily enjoys reading, quilting, traveling, shopping and gardening.
One thing that is going great in education in your state: New education reform laws that are putting kids first.
One thing you wish could be improved in education in your state: Communication with parents.
Your favorite teacher (and why): Mrs. Johnson, she always tries to make learning fun and help each kid, no matter what his or her learning style is.
Secret indulgence: Chocolate (but is not much of a secret) or shoe shopping.
Favorite quote: “You wouldn’t worry about what others think of you, if only you realized how seldom they do.” Eleanor Roosevelt
Favorite subject in school (and why): History, I really enjoyed learning about the good and bad things that happened in the past.
Biggest wish for your kids: That they will be happy, and make choices that reflect the values we are trying to teach them.
Most rewarding/challenging stage of parenthood thus far (and why): Dealing with a 13 year old girl and all of the emotions and challenges that brings.
Favorite family tradition: Dinner at Grandma’s house every Sunday.
Favorite family activities: Anything outdoors (we like to visit our National Parks), watching movies, traveling to new places, and being together.
Favorite weeknight family dinner: Anything easy or that someone else cooks.
